Today is the International girl child day to support girls' rights.
To recognize girls' rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child....This is celebrated to highlight gender inequalities that remains between girls and boys !!
A child-centred community development organisation, Plan India celebrated the first ever 'International Day the Girl Child' by illuminating iconic monuments in colour pink.As a part of it's "Because I am a Girl" (BIAAG) campaign, the organisation has urged people from all walks of life to join hands together to support girls' rights.
Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb and Purana Quila in Delhi, and Charminar in Hyderabad is being illuminated pink today on October 11 to create awareness and mobilize support for girls' rights.
