Stamps on Civic Values…

civic

Date of Issue : 18 September 2013

The new block of four stamps from Spanish Post highlights values such as fellowship, respect, sports and road safety.

Provide children and young people the Governing Civic Values in society is one of the great educational performances. Since school education, parents, family and society act as a whole, the transmission of civic values to young people is essential to get a respectful and democratic coexistence.

The fellowship is a link established between people who do things together and is one of the necessary values for personal development. It’s present in our lives from childhood in school, university, sports or working life. The fellowship involves respect and trust among members of the group, because we must not forget that a partner is the person you share experiences, situations and feelings with.

Respect is one of the core values for the coexistence of people. It involves the acceptance and consideration of people or things around us and covers all aspects of life. Like respect for ideas, freedom of expression, religion, color of skin, age, laws and social norms, not to mention the respect for nature, animals and environment.

Another thing that promotes civic values from an early age and influences the development of person is sport. The sport involves effort, achievement, self-discipline, teamwork, rules of the game … That is a number of qualities that exalts a person. Education from the sport entails respect and tolerance and is a form of group integration. Whether having competitive or amusement purposes, sports develop values that contribute to the physical and intellectual development.

Road safety involves educating schoolchildren in the knowledge of the most basic rules of traffic. Respecting traffic lights, looking at both sides of the street before crossing, wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle or not invading the roads are rules that must be observed. Children learn from the adults and the right acting on public roads is the best example to follow.

Jain Acharya Gyansagar stamp release function was also organised at Satna (M.P.) in the auspicious presence of 27 Jain Sadhwis headed by Pujya Aryika Dradhmati Mataji in a grand way.

On this occasion, Mr. Sudhir Jain, National Chairman - Jainism Philately Group, in his speech, informed that this stamp was originally scheduled to release in March 2013. Stamp printed at that time was bearing portrait photo of Acharya Gyansagar Ji and compulsory items of a Digamber Jain saint, Morpankh Pichhi and Kamandal were absent. On the protest of Digamber Jain community, India Post, for the first time, cancelled that stamp and printed another stamp bearing Pichhi & Kamandal alongwith the full image of Acharya Gyansagar Ji.

Gold medal stamps at 2012 Olympics by Royal Mail

image

David Bond, British sailor, only surviving gold medallist at the 1948 London Olympics

With one year to go to London 2012, Royal Mail has announced that it will issue special gold medal stamps to celebrate Team GB Olympic gold medal wins. This is the first time that Royal Mail will be issuing  stamps to mark Olympic victories.   The stamps will feature both individual and team gold medal wins.

Details of the actual designs themselves are set to be announced later, when Royal Mail will also announce its plans to commemorate the Paralympic Games.

Royal Mail issued its first Olympic Games Stamps in 1948, with four stamps bearing the five Olympic Rings.

It will be the third time a host nation has issued stamps to mark individual Olympic gold medal wins.  Australia Post was the first postal service to issue gold medal stamps to mark home team Olympic victories in 2000, with Hellenic Post in Greece following suit in 2004. In 2008 China Post issued a single commemorate sheet of stamps to mark their national team’s success in Beijing.  More recently Canada Post issued a stamp to mark the first ever gold medal won on home territory at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010.

The 27th July sees the issue of the final set of ten stamps in Royal Mail’s countdown to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The three-part series has seen 30 stamps issued, reflecting all sports competed.

Royal Mail has a history of celebrating key moments in UK sporting history.  England’s World Cup football victory in 1966 was the first UK sporting achievement to be marked by a set of Special Stamps with more recent stamp issues featuring the England rugby team’s 2003 historic World Cup win and the English cricket team’s 2005 memorable Ashes success.
