Special Covers on World Environment Day

 World Environment Day

World Environment Day (WED) occurs on 5'" June every year for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. In 1974 the first WED was held with the theme "Only One Earth". This day celebrates the natural environment and allows a global platform to raise awareness on the environmental issues worldwide, with plans to mitigate these issues as a global community.

The celebration of this day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated all over the world. From 1987, every World Environment Day has a different global host country, where the official celebrations take place. This year it is Canada. The theme for 2017 is 'Connecting People to nature - in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator'.

This special cover is released by Department of Posts, India to mark World Environment Day [WED] 2017.

World Environment Day 2015 - 'Seven Billion Dreams; One Planet; Consume with Care'

image

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. The theme for 2015 is how the well-being of humanity, the environment and economies ultimately depends on the responsible management of the planet’s natural resources. Evidence is building that people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide.

Cover prepared by Sanjeev Jain - Dehradun

Many of the Earth’s ecosystems are nearing critical tipping points of depletion or irreversible change, pushed by high population growth and economic development. By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same and with a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion, we will need three planets to sustain our way of life. Living well within planetary boundaries is the most promising strategy for ensuring a healthy future.

You can save the world !

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change -- IPCC of U.N. has monitored and predicted the temperature of the earth's surface and the sea water and has come to the conclusion that in the Twenty First Century (2000-2100) the average temperature of the earth's surface will increase by 1.1 to 6.4 Degree Celsius, causing global warming that will result in a risk in the sea level. It is also expected that there will be drastic changes in the weather, a change in the number and frequency of aerial water droplets and agricultural products and an expansion in disease carriers. Everyone can help to alleviate the problems related to global warming by using simple methods -- energy conservation, avoiding using plastic bags, decreasing the amount of waste and the use of fuel, avoiding using instruments that contain the CFCs which cause greenhouse effect, and planting more trees.

World Environment Day

image

Today is World Environment Day . World Environment Day (WED) is observed on June 5 every year to promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity, the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action.

image   image

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day celebrations is Think.Eat.Save. Think.Eat.Save is an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages you to reduce your food print. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted. This is equivalent to the same amount produced in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa. At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger.

image image image

Think –Eat – Save --- Do not waste Food

Given this enormous imbalance in lifestyles and the resultant devastating effects on the environment, this year’s theme Think.Eat.Save – encourages you to become more aware of the environmental impact of the food choices you make and empowers you to make informed decisions.

This year’s campaign rallies you to take action from your home and then witness the power of collective decisions you and others have made to reduce food waste, save money, minimize the environmental impact of food production and force food production processes to become more efficient.

So think before you eat and help save our environment !

Hi ! Today is 5th June and it is celebrated all over the world as World Environment Day .World Environment Day (WED) was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.Commemorated yearly on 5 June, WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. Climate Change is the theme of this year's World Environment Day. I am givimg here some stamps issued by some countries on World Environment Day. This is all for today.....Have a Happy Clean Green and Peaceful Environment ! ......Till Next Post ...Have a Nice Time !......

World Environment Day - Green Cities
Date of Issue - 5 June 2005

The theme for World Environment Day 2009 is 'Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change'. It reflects the urgency for nations to agree on a new deal at the crucial climate convention meeting in Copenhagen some 180 days later in the year, and the links with overcoming poverty and improved management of forests. This year’s host is Mexico which reflects the growing role of the Latin American country in the fight against climate change, including its growing participation in the carbon markets.Mexico is also a leading partner in UNEP's Billion Tree Campaign. The country, with the support of its President and people, has spearheaded the pledging and planting of some 25 per cent of the trees under the campaign. Accounting for around 1.5 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, the country is demonstrating its commitment to climate change on several fronts.Mexican President Felipe Calderon states that the World Environment Day celebration will “further underline Mexico's determination to manage natural resources and deal with the most demanding challenge of the 21st century – climate change.”

The World Environment Day's agenda is to:

Give a human face to environmental issues

Empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development

Promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues

Advocate partnership which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.

World Environment Day

Today is 5th June and it is celebrated all over the world as World Environment Day. On this day we want to share some philatelic items on environment from our one frame exhibit "Save Environment". Let us make our earth free of pollution and make the world a better place to live in by avoiding all types of pollution by our own possible ways. Increased traffic, industrial expansion and lack of comprehensive environmental regulations and enforcement have combined to produce unacceptable high level of Air Pollution . Various new diseases are emerging due to environmental pollution. Since man is the biggest polluter therefore it is the duty of human being to protect the environment and save himself as well as the ecosystem of earth from the evil effects of environmental hazards. Have a nice day with a clean and pollution free environment and enjoy some of the items shown below. Till next post ...Happy Philatelic Hunting !
