Shri Digamber Jain Agarwal Samaj Youth Wing had organized a grand function at Shri Digamber Jain Parshwanath Upavan Mandir, Belgachia Road, Kolkata in which this cover was released.

Israel - Thailand Joint Issue

 

Date of Issue : 5 June 2014

Here is a new joint issue   from Israel and Thailand. It has been issued to commemorate 60 years of Diplomatic relations between Israel and Thailand. The stamp of Israel and Thailand  feature native fruits of the two countries.

The State of Israel and the Kingdom of Thailand have enjoyed friendly diplomatic relations for 60 years, since their establishment in 1954.These friendly relations include successful cooperation in many areas such as agriculture, water management, advanced technology, education and medicine.The versatile relations between these two countries have been demonstrated through a number of historical visits by members of the Thai royal family to Israel and by Israeli dignitaries to Thailand.

Every year Israel welcomes hundreds of Thai students and professionals who come to attend various training programs, mainly in the fields of agriculture, technology and education.

The stamp features two types of fruit that are characteristic of their countries – a pomegranate from Israel and a mangosteen fruit from Thailand. In addition to their tastiness, each of these fruits has symbolic significance in the traditions of its people and its country.In Jewish tradition, the pomegranate symbolizes beauty, fertility and abundance.It is also one of the seven species mentionedin the Bible as being special agricultural products of Eretz Israel.

The mangosteen fruit, a very popular tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia, is known as the “Queen of Thai Fruit” probably because of its beautiful appearance and pleasant taste. Each of these fruits is known to possess its own medicinal properties and they are also combined in food supplements, health drink sand beauty creams

New Meghdoot Post Card by India Post

 

Another issue of Meghdoot Postcard of year 2014 ( 25p Home Jahangir Bhabha SPP/ HYD 2014) has been reported carrying advertisement on Noorul Islam University in English on the occasion of Silver Jubilee of the university. Advertisement carries various information about the university, courses offered by university and their contact information. The Meghdoot card was issued on 12 June 2014.

USPS makes mistake in new Liberty stamp…

The U.S. Post Office made a small mistake in its new Liberty stamp.

The replica statue in Las Vegas (left) and the real Statue of Liberty in New York (right). The lighter rectangular patch in the center crown spike on the replica appears on the stamp. The actual statue does not have this feature. Photos by Jay Bigalke/Linn's Stamp News.

"Early Show" co-anchor Jeff Glor reported the Post Office did not use Lady Liberty in New York Harbor to make the stamp to celebrate its 125th anniversary. Instead, they mistakenly used the image of the similar statue in Las Vegas.

There are differences in the statues' hair and eyes. He added the statue in Las Vegas is also half the size of the real Statue of Liberty. Post Office spokesman Roy Betts told the New York Times, "We still love the stamp design and would have selected this photograph anyway."

But Betts added the post office regrets the mistake and is "re-examining our processes to prevent this situation from happening in the future." According to the New York Times, the stamp is not being changed - only informational material about it.

Latvia- EUROPA - Astronomy - 2 April 2009

Hi ! I have recently received a nice cover on EUROPA theme - Astronomy from Latvia sent by Mr. Evgenie Limonsky. The cover depicts two stamps. On one stamp telescope and a portrait of the Lativian astrnomer Yan Ikauniek is represented. On the second stamp the Solar System with a meteorite, Institute of Astronomy of the Latvian University, a radio telescope and portraits of scientists - astronomers is represented. One more nice cover with a very beautiful and fine permanent cancellation from Gandhi Ashram Post office of Ahmedabad so kindly sent by Mr. Shrikant Parikh and a nice Meghdoot Card with a permanent pictorial cancellation from Vadodara sent by Mr. Prashant Pandya. Thanks to all of you for these nice covers and card with beautiful cancellations.Postmarks are always a nice collecting item for all thematic collectors. Please also see some updates .
