International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015)
Serbia Post issued two stamps to commemorate IIYL 2015 on 26 August 2015. The UN General Assembly 68th Session proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015) on 20 December 2013.This new issue is dedicated to the International Year of Light ‒ a global initiative which highlights to the citizens of the world the importance of light and optical technologies in their lives, for their futures, and for the development of society.
Light plays a central role in human activities. On the most fundamental level through photosynthesis, light is necessary to the existence of life itself, and the many applications of light have revolutionized society through medicine, communications, entertainment and culture.
The International Year of Light is a global initiative which comprises a series of coordinated activities on national, regional and international levels, aiming to inform all citizens of the world about the importance of light and light-based technologies in their daily lives, their future, the development of society and art, and overall social progress.
Light is one of the initiators of the process of photosynthesis, an essential factor for the development of the biosphere and the evolution of the human species. The light plays a central role in human activities starting from the understanding of the world through the sense of vision, artistic expression, modern communications, Internet, to the development of the fundamental concepts that allow us to understand our place in the Universe and record the events in time and space.
Application of light-based technologies gave revolutionary contribution to the development of medical diagnostics and treatment, telecommunications, energy efficient manufacturing, media, art and culture, and thus improve the health and overall quality of life.
Almost all scientific fields are based on the theories of light and its interaction with matter, and light is also the main messenger in the study and our understanding of the Universe and subatomic world. The history of the study of light spans centuries, while the modern science of light was born in the 20th century. Today light and light-based technologies become key disciplines in science and technology of the 21st century.

International Year of Crystallography
Date of Issue : 14 February 2014
Slovak Post post issued a stamp commemorating the International Year of Crystallography on 14 February 2014.
Crystallography is a science that examines the arrangement of atoms in solids. The word “crystallography” derives from the Greek krustallos meaning cold drop or originated in cold. A more current definition states that it is a science describing the atomic and molecular structure of solids and its relation to physical, chemical and biological properties. In 2014 we will celebrate 100 years since awarding the Nobel Price to Max von Laue for the experiments that for the first time revealed the atomic (crystal) structure of solid matter via X-ray diffraction. That is why the UNO announced the year 2014 to be the International Year of Crystallography. One of the basic thoughts in the search for a crystal structure is a presumption of its symmetry and of the periodic arrangement of its basic building elements – atoms, eventually molecules. Since we live in three-dimensional space, we intuitively – and usually correctly – understand three-dimensionally ordered structures. However, the improving experimental methods allowed us to discover that there is an important group of solids that deviate from this strict rule, while their properties are related to seemingly negligible deviations from the well-established order. With the help of electron density isolines in the Ta-Ge-Te alloy crystal the stamp shows that instead of the expected placement on the straight line, atoms positions are modulated so that they create a crenel, which ultimately results into the change of substance’s properties.
The motive depicted in FDC shows such usage of symmetry that abstracts (from bottom to top) from a specific atoms arrangement in a kaolinite structure to symbolic schemes of OD theory that reflecting the laws of symmetry, lead to simplified and more understandable presentation. The stamp on FDC represents a fragment of such a structure.
On commemorative sheet is a depiction of Laue’s diagram of a chromium compound crystal with a threefold symmetry axis in line with the primary X-ray beam. UV protective layer printed on surface of postage stampis derived directly from Laues’s diagram depicted on Commemorative sheet which is finally stamped by commemorative cancellation dedicated to honour of Max von Laue.

International Year of Statistics 2013
Date of Issue : 24 May 2013
Portugal Post issued a set of two stamps and a miniature sheet to commemorate International Year of Statistics 2013 .
The International Year of Statistics (Statistics2013) is a global initiative, now encompassing more than 1400 participating organizations from 108 countries, which aims to celebrate and recognize the powerful contributions of statistical science to the lives of each one of us, on our everyday chores.
Through the combined effort of many organizations specializing in this area, the event "Statistics2013" aims to promote the importance of statistics, not only for the scientific community in the broad sense, but also for the business community, the government, the media and the public in general.
The objectives of this comprehensive celebration are:
- To increase public awareness of Statistics as a fundamental tool in all aspects of life in society.
- To promote Statistics as a career, especially among young people.
- To support and encourage creativity and development in Probability and Statistics sciences.
Nowadays the notions of Statistics and of (the Theory of) Probability are well differentiated. In a synthetic form, it can be said that the Theory of Probability is the study of mathematical models suitable for the description of random experiments, i.e., involving uncertainty (the so-called probabilistic or stochastic models). And that Statistics is the science of collecting, organizing, analysing, interpreting and transmitting data, i.e. measurements or observations taken from the real world, as well as the prediction of new data. Thus, Statistic is an area of science, separated from Mathematics but in many aspects (in obtaining inferences and predictions) it is based on it and dependent on Computing. Depending on the many different approaches we may have Descriptive Statistics, Statistical Inference, Statistical Prediction, Statistical Decision, Official Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Computational Statistics, Frequentist Statistics and Bayesian Statistics.

Sustainable Energy For All…
2012 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR ALL
The United Nation has designated 2012 as the ‘International Year of Sustainable Energy for All’ in order to increase awareness of the importance of addressing energy issues including the energy services for all, access to affordable energy, energy efficiency and the sustainability of energy sources and use; and for promotion of the internationally agreed development through sustainable and peaceful way. The year celebration combines these challenges with the goal of low pollution trying to meet the needs of the present without compromising those of future generations.
Sustainable energy is defined as "the energy produced and used in ways that support long-term human development in a social, economic and ecological scale." Therefore, sustainable energy for all is linked to a sustainable future for development and poverty alleviation.
The future of our nation depends upon the development of all. Students also have the important share and role in nation’s future. They are supposed to be the pillars of the nation. Thus their energy needs necessarily are important.
Postage stamps are issued by different countries like Greifenberg, San Marino, Canada and Spain as part of this YEAR celebration to create and improve awareness about energy and its conservation. They give message with focus on use of endless natural sources such as wind and solar etc. The term "for all" is represented by the ability to produce energy in self-sufficient environment such as the lighted cabin using these natural resources.
I as a student appeal Department of Post and Government of India to issue a postage stamp to participate the international year celebration on Sustainable Energy for All…

This is Speed Post Service or Slow Post Service of India Post ?????
This is just to draw the attention of all regarding Poor Speed Post service of India Post . I sent my exhibits for SINE, a national stamp exhibition to Mr Madhukar Jhingan, Paschim Vihar, New Delhi from Bhuntar Sub Post Office Kullu on 31st October 2011. As per Speed Post tracking record the article reached New Delhi on 2nd November. But it was not delivered to the addressee on 2nd November. In fact there was no transaction on 3rd and 4th November. On 5th November the article was bagged for Paschim Vihar PO and still it is doubtful whether it was delivered to the addressee today.
Is it a reliable service of which India Post boasts of ????? Due to negligence of the Postal Department my exhibits could not reach the destination and it could not be displayed as the exhibition started from from 3rd November 2011.
Who is responsible for this delay ….. ??? The concerned post office must give a clear explanation for this delay . Why was the article not delivered on the date it reached New Delhi. It was not sent either on 3rd or 4th November. It caused lot of inconvenience and my exhibits could not be displayed in the exhibition.
Being a philatelist I am highly disappointed that due to negligence and poor working of India Post my exhibits were deprived from participation in the exhibition…. What about if it was someone’s admit card for examination or interview letter for a job ?????? How India Post justifies its working ???
