Real artworks by autists !!
PASCO 2015
Date of Issue : 25 November 2015
Autism is considered to be an illness that characterizes low mental development. PHLPost decided to disapprove this stereotype and show that autists can create real artworks. I am happy to share these small philatelic pieces of art created by special people who have broad imagination and great heart. These are “Pasko 2015″ special stamps that attract attention by their brightness and originality.
PHLPost launched the stamps to coincide with the program called “Kapihan with stamp collectors” held at the historic walled city of Intramuros, Manila.
“We would like to give emphasis to the artistic ability or the talent of persons with developmental disabilities and make it a point that their artworks will be featured in our Christmas stamp designs”, Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.
The block of four (4) stamps and souvenir sheets illustrates the spirit of the season characterized by the Christmas trees with colorful decorations and Filipino lanterns displayed at every home during the holidays which were hand drawn by Javee Fua, Kobie Trambulo, Vernice Prado, Lomi Capili, Cedric Chua, Julius Cabuang and Thirdy Cabading which are imprinted in the stamps. PHLPost printed 104,000 copies of the four designs of the Christmas stamps, with P10 denomination.
PHLPost is hoping that through the stamps, they will be able to make the public aware of their responsibility in building a nurturing environment to hone the skills of these special children and become members of a productive community.

Cory Aquino paintings on stamps….
Here are new stamps on paintings from Philippines . These special stamps feature paintings by “Cory” Cojuangco Aquino .Maria Corazon Sumulong “Cory” Cojuangco Aquino was a Filipina politician who served as the 11th President of the Philippines, the first woman to hold that office, and the first female president in Asia. Aquino was the most prominent figure of the 1986 People Power Revolution, which toppled the 20-year authoritarian rule of President Ferdinand Marcos and restored democracy to the Philippines. She was named Time magazine’s “Woman of the Year” in 1986.
Aquino oversaw the promulgation of the 1987 Constitution, which limited the powers of the Presidency and re-established the bicameral Congress. Her administration gave strong emphasis and concern for civil liberties and human rights, and on peace talks to resolve the ongoing Communist insurgency and Islamist secession movements. Her economic policies centered on restoring economic health and confidence and focused on creating a market-oriented and socially responsible economy.
In 1996, Cory took an active interest in painting under the tutelage of artist Jeffrey Consumo. Next to prayer, painting became a favored mode of keeping her mind active and her sense of humanity intact. Although she has participated in a joint exhibit with friends and has sold some of her works to raise funds for her advocacies, she does not profess to be a professional painter. She likes to paint flowers and women, usually in oil or acrylic on canvas.
On March 24, 2008, Aquino’s family announced that Corazón had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. By July 2009, Aquino was reported to be in very serious condition, suffering from loss of appetite, and was confined to the Makati Medical Center. On August 1, 2009, the 76-year-old Aquino died peacefully at the Makati Medical Center at 3:18 a.m., of cardio respiratory arrest.

Stamp on Spanish language
Date of Issue : 5 June 2014
Spanish Post issued a commemorative stamp in promotion of Spanish language on 5th June 2014. Spanish Post, Correos is involved in promoting the Marca España and has issued this stamp dedicated to the ‘Ñ’ of the Spanish language with all the features of the series: ‘Ñ’ as a watermark, the distinctive colours of Marca España and the incorporation of a vignette into the design. The stamps also display the spines of two of the most famous BOOKS written in the Spanish language, Don Quijote by Cervantes, and The Time of the Hero by Mario Vargas Llosa.
The strongest heritage Spain has, and the one most internationally widespread today, is the Spanish language, which is growing every day in all its many forms: as a native language, a studied language, as a vehicle of cultural diffusion, as an international language of communication second only to English and also as the language of intercontinental economic exchanges.
It is the second most used language in the world, after Chinese, with some 456 million native speakers. It is clear that this continued growth – Spanish is now the third most used language on the Internet – stems not only from the interest which the Hispanic culture inspires in the rest of the world, with its long history and a wide range of literature which has brought forth a significant number of Nobel laureates and recipients of the Prince of Asturias and Cervantes awards. It is also down to the important role being forged by economic and working relations between the Hispanic sphere and the rest of the world. It could be said that the Spanish language is the country’s foremost industry.

Aquatic Flowers on stamps…
Date of Issue : 27 June 2014
Here are new stamps from Philippine Post featuring aquatic flowers found in Philippines . The details of these flowers are given below -
Amazon lily Victoria amazonica – Native to the Amazon River basic, Giant Water Lily is the largest size member of the Water lily family. The plant has very large leaves, up to 2-3 m in diameter, that float on the water’s surface on a submerged stalk, 7–8 m in length. The edges turn up to form a rim. Underside of leaf is coppery red. The flowers are white the first night they are open and become pink the second night, and purple subsequently. They are up to 9-12 inches in diameter, and are pollinated by beetles. The flowers are also strongly fragrant.
Water lily Nymphaea – Water lily (family Nymphaeaceae), any of 58 species in 6 genera of freshwater plants native to the temperate and tropical parts of the world. Most species of water lilies have rounded variously notched, waxy-coated leaves on long stalks that contain many air spaces and float in quiet freshwater habitats. The stalks arise from thick, fleshy, creeping underwater stems that are buried in the mud. The showy, fragrant, solitary flowers are borne at or above the water surface on long stalks that are attached to the underground stems.
Water hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes – Water hyacinth is a free-floating perennial aquatic plant (or hydrophyte) native to tropical and sub-tropical South America. With broad, thick, glossy, ovate leaves, water hyacinth may rise above the surface of the water as much as 1 meter in height. The leaves are 10–20 cm across, and float above the water surface.
They have long, spongy and bulbous stalks. The feathery, freely hanging roots are purple-black. An erect stalk supports a single spike of 8-15 conspicuously attractive flowers, mostly lavender to pink in color with six petals. When not in bloom, water hyacinth may be mistaken for frog’s-bit (Limnobium spongia).
Marsh marigold Caltha palustris – Also known as Kingcup, Marsh Marigold is most often found in soggy, ground such as wet woodland, ditches, stream margins, ponds, bogs and marshes. The flowers are held in loose, clusters on stout, hollow stems which also bear deep green, kidney shaped, fleshy leaves which increase in size after the plant has flowered. This is a native plant, it is poisonous and it belongs to the family Ranunculaceae.
