Felicitation to Philatelists






On 6th October 2018, India Posts, West Bengal Circle felicitated three philatelists, Dipok Dey, Manik Jain and Mohinilal Majumder ( posthumously) for their big contribution to Indian Philately on the occasion of sesquicentennial celebration of Kolkata G.P.O. Dipok Dey is a well known philatelist and artist of Kolkata . He is the first Indian to design UN stamp in 1985. Manik Jain is a noted philatelist and stamp dealer from Kolkata, known for his Phila India Stamp Catalogues of Indian Stamps.

Tributes to Shri Vijay Deshpande



I am sorry to inform the Readers of Rainbow Stamp Club that Shri Vijay Deshpande, a renowned autograph collector from Mumbai passed away on 28th January 2017. He was a  regular contributor to Rainbow . He had contributed some wonderful posts related to stamps and autographs to the Rainbow Stamp Club. Our deepest condolences to all his family members.. May his soul rest in peace. Here is a glimpse of  his autograph collection. Gandhi Philatelic Exhibition


Gandhi Philatelic Exhibition at Pune



On 30 Jan 17 Gandhi Philatelic Exhibition was held at Pune GPO was inaugurated. Exhibits of Mr Ole-Fredrik Olsen, Mr. Ashok Bayanwala, Mr. Prashant Pandya, Dr Anjali Dutta, Col J Dutta, and Dept of Post, Pune were displayed. The chief guest was Smt Aparna Mohile former chief of the Censor Board who had certified the film Gandhi. The exhibition was on for two days.







The special cover on Ahmednagar Fort was released. One special cover on forts of Pune Region will be released every month. School children came in large numbers which was very heartening. Col J Dutta spoke to the children on the theme and then took them around.

Cawnpex 2016 - District level philatelic exhibition, Kanpur

A two day district level philatelic exhibition,“Cawnpex 2016”was organized by India Post from 16th – 17th December, 2016. The name “Cawnpex“was inspired by the erstwhile spelling of the city - Cawnpore. The postal department branded the exhibition with a special logo of the event, featuring a picture of the current Kanpur G.P.O building. In 2015, the district level exhibition held at Kanpur was named Kanpex 2015 but Henceforth the event would be called Cawnpex. The Exhibition had 56 frames in Competitive class and 2 in Invitee class. Mr. Dinesh Chandra Sharma and Mr. Arun Agarwal were the members of the jury at the event. The exhibition took place at the Kanpur Philatelic Bureau which is situated at the second floor of the GPO building.



3 special covers were released during the exhibition. On December 16th, the exhibition was inaugurated by PMG Mr. Alok Saxena and a special cover dedicating the flag song (Vijayi vishwa tiranga pyara, Jhanda uncha rahe hamara...') written by Shyam Lal Gupta Parshad, a popular writer from Kanpur, was released. The special cover features the image of the original notes of the writer (source: Bithoor Museum) and the cancellation features a flag. A painting competition was also organized for the school children.




On  December 17th, two special covers were released. A cover featuring a quotation by Mahatma Gandhi, “Everyone must be his own scavenger” was released on “Swatchh Bharat”. The cancellation of the cover  features spectacles of Gandhi (Swatchh Bharat logo). Another cover featuring the pictures of Cawnpore Kotwali, Radha Krishna (J.K.) Temple and a proposed Kanpur metro train with caption “Kanpur Kal, Aaj Aur Kal” was also released. The cancellation of the cover features  Kanpur GPO building.


The award ceremony was chaired by Prof. Indranil Manna, Director of IIT Kanpur. All participants were honored with medals and certificates.

Narmadapex 2016, Jabalpur






 NARMADAPEX-2016


India Post Jabalpur (M. P.) Circle organized District Level Philatelic Exhibition NARMADAPEX - 2016 at Jabalpur from 25th to 27th Nov. 2016. It was a grand success show by all means i.e. arrangements, exhibits, covers etc. under the leadership of Dr. Ajinkya Kale, S.S.P, Jabalpur Division. Main features of this exhibition were -

 Total 102 frames displayed including 38 frames of invitees.



Three beautiful special covers issued on World famous marble rocks Bhedaghat, Xavier Institute of Development Action & Studies Jabalpur, Maharaja Agrasen / Jabalpur Agrawal Sabha. 

Organized Letter Writing Competition, Painting Competition and Quiz.

 Prof. Kapil Deo Mishra, Chancellor, Jabalpur University inaugurated the exhibition and Dr. E. T. Arasau, Dy, Director, Kendriya Vidhyalaya Sangathan distributed the prizes. 

Senior Philatelists Mr. Sudhir Jain (Satna) and Mr. Arvind Khodke (Bhopal) were the Jury members.

The standard of entries was very good. Some of the notable items exhibited were - 1948 Mahatma Gandhi full set FDC and Morning Covers, Early Indian Cancellations, Pre Stamped post due covers, Early Railway Cancellations, 1935 Silver Jubillee set FDC etc.

Rio Gold medalist honoured on stamp..

Japan Post Co. is honoring all Japanese gold medalists at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with commemorative postage stamps.
The first set of stamps was issued Aug. 8 to mark Kosuke Hagino's victory in the 400-meter individual medley race on Aug. 6, the first day of the swimming competition. Hagino was the first Japanese to win a gold in Rio.
Kosuke Hagino is a Japanese competition swimmer who specializes in the individual medley and 200 m freestyle. He is a four-time Olympic medalist, most notably winning gold in the 400 m individual medley at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Hagino currently holds the Asian Records in the 200 m and 400 m individual medley (long course) as well as the 100 m and 200 m individual medley (short course). With team Japan, he also holds the Asian Records for the 4×100 m freestyle relay and the 4×100 m medley relay.
A total of 1,000 sheets of commemorative stamps went on sale at Tokyo Central Post Office on Aug. 8. A sheet of five 82-yen stamps is priced at 1,400 yen ($13.73), including tax.

All-women post office




An All-women post office inaugurated at Singjamei

Shri Vinod Kumar, Director (Posts) Manipur dedicated an all women post office, Singjamei Sub office to the people of Manipur with all ladies staff members including Post master.

February 4, Imphal: An all women post office, Singjamei Sub office was dedicated to the people of Manipur by Shri Vinod Kumar, Director (Posts) Manipur , with all ladies staff members including Post master.
The Director congratulated the postmaster Smt GA. Memi Devi and other staff members on this historical occasion. He intimated that there is one postal assistant Ms. E. Geeta Devi and one Gr. D official who also are ladies. This Sub Post Office serves postal and financial requirements of large number of people, among them majority are women. SPM intimated that female customers feel comfortable with lady staff while it comes to getting some information about postal schemes or if they have any doubt.
The Post Office is under Project Arrow scheme and consists of three counters. Two of the two counters offer Multi Purpose services such as registration, booking of speed post as well as sale of  Stamps. All the counters will have only women employees.
On this occasion Md Riyajuddin, Inspector of Post Offices, 3rd Sub Division was also present who has made a state level record of 757 rural PLI policies in single day at Mayang Post Office recently. He said there is lot of possibilities for PLI/RPLI in Singjamei post office which will be beneficial for women visitors.
It is also important to note that Singjamai Post office comes under Second sub division which is being headed by woman officer Ms. O. Nishita, Inspector Post Office and on this occasion Ms Homeshori, In-charge, Philately Bureau, Imphal Head Office represented HPO while Divisional Office, Imphal was represented by Ms Rebeca, OA Phila & BD.

Ms Rebeca said that all women post office is a step towards better services for women in Manipur and it also paves way to more empowerment for women as various social security schemes are available here especially Sukanya Samridhi Yojna for girl child which will guarantee bright future for girls. Ms. Homeshori intimated that a lot of philately material related to women issues will be displayed in this office for sale and efforts will be made to open more philately accounts for girls.

Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi released a commemorative stamp and a miniature sheet in denomination of Rs. 5 each on International Day of Yoga during inaugural function of the International Conference on Yoga for Holistic Health held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 21st June, 2015. The Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) and Health & Family Welfare, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, the Minister of State for Finance, Shri Jayant Sinha, Baba Ramdev and other dignitaries were present at the release function.

Postal Museum inaugurated at Postal Training Centre, Vadodara on 20th June 2015

The Postal Museum was inaugurated by Shri Ganesh Sawaleshwarkar, Director, Postal Training Centre, Vadodara in the premises of Postal Training Center, Vadodara on 20th June 2015. Inauguration function was well attended by local philatelists, staff members of Department of Posts and Postal Training Centre.

The postal museum displays an array of paraphernalia of the bygone era’s postal system. Leather cash bags, red cloth cash bag, old scale and weights, scale box, various badges worn by postal employees made of brass, aluminium and plastic, old Morse (telegraph) instrument , old order books of different post offices, code names and index letters book, old postal guides, post office manuals, binder, different sizes of letter boxes, wooden letter box, mobile (cycle) post office box, postman uniform and bag, leather portfolio bag, mail overseer bag, lantern, stamp cancellation machine etc. have been displayed in the museum. Philatelic covers and a statue of Halkara (postal runner) are also on display in the museum.
