New Stamps on Easter

Easter Eggs from Poland

Date of Issue : 18 March 2019

Here is a beautiful set of stamps to be  issued by Polish Post on 18th March featuring decorative eggs. Eggs are integral part of Easter. Polish Post issues  special and very beautiful stamps on Easter ever year  !

Easter eggs, also called Paschal eggs, are decorated eggs that are usually used as gifts on the occasion of Easter. As such, Easter eggs are common during the season of Eastertide (Easter season). The oldest tradition is to use dyed and painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs wrapped in colored foil, hand-carved wooden eggs, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as chocolate. However, real eggs continue to be used in Central and Eastern European tradition. Although eggs, in general, were a traditional symbol of fertility and rebirth in Christianity, for the celebration of Eastertide.

Easter eggs symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus, from which Jesus resurrected. In addition, one ancient tradition was the staining of Easter eggs with the colour red "in memory of the blood of Christ, shed as at that time of his crucifixion." This custom of the Easter egg can be traced to early Christians of Mesopotamia, and from there it spread into Russia and Siberia through the Orthodox Churches, and later into Europe through the Catholic and Protestant Churches. This Christian use of eggs may have been influenced by practices in "pre-dynastic period in Egypt, as well as amid the early cultures of Mesopotamia and Crete".

Happy Easter to all the Readers of Rainbow Stamp Club.

Waster stamp from Croatia

Food Blessing

On the Easter Saturday afternoon, during the evening of Resurrection or the Easter morning, it is nice to watch dotted groups of people with covered baskets gather around churches to one of Dulčić’s beats and tunes. However, those tiny houses of prayer that barely have enough benches for everyone are the most beautiful ones. The baskets tend to end up on the floor, in a circle, and each of them displays the whitest, most embroidered, and perhaps the oldest linen cover that could be found in their owner’s home. The baskets themselves are a gentle lyrical leftover from the old days.  Even though they are continually sold at fairs and department stores even today or imported as exotic items, their time, and that of the wicker they were made from and of the hands that still make them, has actually expired. It is also the case with those differences that make it obvious whether the wicker used to make baskets is from Šestine or Rijeka Dubrovačka. Green onion feathers stick out from the baskets and when you lift up the linen covers, you can also see scarlet radishes, Easter or white bread, colourful eggs or plain white eggs, ham and cake...Everything we look forward to at the Easter table, everything the heavens delight us with and everything the Earth bestows upon us. The number of eggs in a basket in most of our regions matches the number of family members. However, in some places, the custom of adding eggs for the dearly departed has been preserved, and in general, for those who are no longer with us…This custom has originated in the ancient times and it removes the barriers between space and time.

We, just like the food in the baskets, have grown out of the Earth. We are its substance and fruit. The food we carry to be blessed, our daily and holiday bread, sustains us and renews us to the very last cell in our bodies making us brand new every few years. Therefore, this food that renews us must be full of that life-giving energy that lifts us off the ground, directs us from the root to the treetop and above it. The blessing that we seek and call upon is our gratitude for its life energy and our request to keep supporting us.

In regions where old customs have been preserved, the eggshells of eggs that have been blessed are scattered on the ground and across the fields. This way, the Earth's contribution is returned to it and the cycle of repayment and gratitude is completed. Each Easter basket carried to be blessed, in addition to the spring splendour of the Earth's matter, also contains the experience of grace and the supplement of hope.

This year's Easter stamp of Croatian Post is dedicated to that experience and that hope.

World Day of the Sick

Date of Issue : 11 February 2017

February 11 is World Day of the Sick, an observation started by Pope John Paul II as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses. Polish Post  will issue a commemorative stamp on 11th February to mark this special day.

Pope John Paul II initiated the day in 1992 to encourage people to pray for those who suffer from illness and for their caregivers. The Pope himself had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s a year before, in 1991, and it is considered that his own illness was impetus for his designation of the day.
World Day of the Sick was first observed on February 11, 1993. February 11 is also the Catholic Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, which a name is given to the Virgin Mary in honor of the apparitions that were said to have been seen in and around Lourdes, France, by a young girl called Bernadette Soubirous. The Church canonized Bernadette as a saint several years later.

Poland - the Land of honey

Date of Issue : 18 July 2016

Here is a beautiful stamp issued by Poland on Honey.Throughout Poland many types of honey are produced, and the tradition of bee-keeping dates back to the Middle Ages. To mark the necessity and importance of this regional product Poland Post has released a special stamp depicting delicious honey. The design of Stamp, FDC and the sheetlet is so beautiful that  every stamp collector would love to have this exquisite philatelic item.
People who live in the south east of Poland make podkarpacki honeydew (PDO). It is made mostly from honeydew (it is derived from silver fir) with the addition of spruce or pine. It has a resinous aroma, similar to the smell of pine needles and a mild, sweet flavour.

The precious treasure of charming Suwalszczyzna is, in turn, honey from Sejneńszczyzna / Łoździejszczyzna (PDO). This honey nectar is made of dozens of different types of plants. It is produced in the basin of the river Niemno, on the border between Poland and Lithuania.

On the Pomeranian Lake District Drawskie, Drahim honeys (PGI) are produced: they are made of buckwheat, rapeseed, heather or lime, and you can also taste there the multifloral honeys. They simply emit the smell of the region of their origin, because they are characterized by the high pollen level coming from endemic aromatic plants.
In Bory Dolnośląskie (that is the part of Nizina Śląsko-Łużycka) heather honey (PGI) is produced, and in Kurpie people make kurpiowski honey (PGI). The latter can be multiflower or nectar, it may also include honeydew. This honey possesses a spicy aroma and a sweet flavour, due to the variety of the vegetation, to the purity of these areas and to the skills of local beekeepers.

Sun Flower

image

Date of Issue : 26 June 2015

The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant in the family Asteraceae, with a large flower head (capitulum). The stem of the flower can grow up to 3 metres tall, with a flower head that can be 30 cm wide.

image

Sunflower "whole seed" (fruit) are sold as a snack food, after roasting in ovens, with or without salt added. Sunflowers can be processed into a peanut butter alternative, Sunbutter. In Germany, it is mixed together with rye flour to make Sonnenblumenkernbrot (literally: sunflower whole seed bread), which is quite popular in German-speaking Europe. It is also sold as food for birds and can be used directly in cooking and salads. Sunflower oil, extracted from the seeds, is used for cooking, as a carrier oil and to produce margarine and biodiesel, as it is cheaper than olive oil. A range of sunflower varieties exist with differing fatty acid compositions; some 'high oleic' types contain a higher level of healthy monounsaturated fats in their oil than Olive oil.

The cake remaining after the seeds have been processed for oil is used as a livestock feed. Some recently developed cultivars have drooping heads. These cultivars are less attractive to gardeners growing the flowers as ornamental plants, but appeal to farmers, because they reduce bird damage and losses from some plant diseases. Sunflowers also produce latex and are the subject of experiments to improve their suitability as an alternative crop for producing hypoallergenic rubber.
