EUROPA 2024

Under Water Flora and Fauna

Date of Issue : 12  June 2024

Sharing this wonderful souvenir sheet from Armenia. The design of the stamp is so beautiful and unique. The theme of EUROPA 2024 is under water Flora and Fauna.

On June 12th, 2024, a souvenir sheet with one postage stamp dedicated to the theme “International. Europa 2024. Underwater Fauna & Flora” has been put into circulation.

The postage stamp of the souvenir sheet with the nominal value of 500 AMD depicts a big eye of a fish in which the underwater fauna and flora of Armenia is reflected. Particularly, the postage stamp reflects the images of a crayfish, a snake, underwater plants as well as different types of fish (i.e. Salmo ischchan gegarkuni, Capoeta capoeta sevangi, Sevan barbel) endemic to the underwater world of freshwater Lake Sevan and rivers of Armenia.

The stamp is issued within the frames of “EUROPA” annual International Competition of the Association of European Postal Operators (PostEurop). EUROPA stamps underline the development of the cooperation among European Postal Operators.

Greece

The designs of the two stamps from Greece combine the ancient and the modern Olympics.
These stamps were issued July 7. In announcing them, Hellenic Post said, “With their sights set on Rio and their hearts never forgetting the roots of the Olympic Games in Ancient Greece, the Greek Olympic Team will compete with passion, honouring their country’s history and proving once again that Greek sport is the best and worthiest ambassador of Greece internationally.”
In addition to silhouettes of modern athletes and skylines, the stamp designs include images of sculptures.
Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue appears on both stamp designs, and the ancient Greek statue known as the Artemision bronze is shown on the 0.80 denomination, and the marble Winged Victory of Samothrace on the 0.90.

Centennial of the Armenian Genocide

image

On 29th of January, within the framework of the solemn cancellation ceremony, the postage stamps and souvenir sheets dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide were put into circulation.

The postage stamps depict the symbol of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide ‒ the flower “Forget-me-not”. The postage stamps and souvenir sheets have been issued in seven face values, which include the tariffs servicing the internal and international letter correspondence of Armenia.

The Armenian Genocide, the first genocide of the 20th Century, occurred when two million Armenians living in Turkey were eliminated from their historic homeland through forced deportations and massacres between 1915-1918.

These postage stamps serving as little ambassadors of the Republic of Armenia throughout the world will support the cause of spreading the symbol of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
