World Photography Day…
Today is World Photography Day. Most people haven't heard of World Photography Day. For photography lovers, 19 August is just a day to come together and celebrate the awesome hobby of photography . Whether you see yourself as an Amateur, Hobbyist or Professional, August 19th is a day to embrace your love of photography. Here are some stamps and covers related with Photography.
World Photography Day originates from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic processes developed by Joseph Nicèphore Nièpce and Louis Daguerre. On January 9, 1839, The French Academy of Sciences announced the daguerreotype process. A few months later, on August 19, 1839, the French government announced the invention as a gift "Free to the World".
Another photographic processes, the Calotype, was also invented in 1839 by William Fox Talbot (it was announced in 1841). Together, the invention of both the Daguerreotype and Calotype mark 1839 as the year that photography was invented.
Louis Daguerre is considered as the inventor of the first practical process of photography. He formed a partnership with Joseph Nicephore in 1829, to improve the process developed by Niepce. After several years of experimentation Daguerre developed a convenient and practical method of photography.
According to Daguerre's process, the images will be fixed onto a sheet of silver-platted copper. The sheet will be polished and coated in iodine to convert it into a surface that will be sensitive to light. The plate will be put on to the camera and will be exposed for a few minutes. Once the image is captured, the plate will be washed with silver chloride. This will make the image not changeable by exposing to light. This technology was called 'daguerreotype' , named after the inventor.

But philatelically this issue has been described very well by the stamps issued by different nations on this subject. Here are some recent stamps from Spain depicting Civic Values. These nice stamps give a good message to fight against climate change. And the collaboration through the campaign Plant for the Planet, are two of the programmes launched by the United Nations to involve civil society and tackle the environmental challenges our Planet faces. Both issues together with the Reconciliation of work and family life are the themes chosen for this year's civic values issue.Well these are the wonderful stamps to be added in environment theme. In the second part of the post there are some nice photographs on by renowned photographer Chris Killip to be issued by Isle of Man in April 2009 . Though this issue not related with environment but it depicts the wor of a famous photographer who is also a Professor of Environmental Studies. This is all for this morning .......Till Next Post ....Have a Nice Time !

A series of eight stamps, featuring the work of internationally renowned photographer Chris Killip, will be issued in April.
