To pay homage to martyrs, a philatelic exhibition was organized in Chandigarh to observe Martyr'r Day on 30 January 2009.This is a philatelic tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their life for the motherlad by Chandigarh Philatelic Club.Here is the report sent by our distinguished member Col Suresh Bagga from Panchkula.
CHANDIPEX 2009
‘Martyr’s Day’ on 30 January 2009 was observed by Chandigarh Philatelic Club. CHANDIPEX 2009 was organized on this theme for two days by the members of the club. Chief Guest Sh Parveen Kohli, GM, Haryana Tourism, inaugurated by lighting a candle to pay homage to the Martyrs. In the back drop were displayed Medals of a Veteran Soldier.
Philatelists who displayed their presentation included Rakesh Walia, Col Suresh Bagga, Abnash Luthra, Mohinder Singh, Rakesh Khurana, P C Awasthi, Vipin Thakur, M L Kuthiala, Mehar Singh and B R Sharma.
The exhibition was visited by large number of School children and city residents. Rakesh Walia diplayed exclusive collection on Gandhi. He also designed the special cover. Col Suresh Bagga displayed ‘Brave-Hearts – The Indian Armed Forces’ bringing out sacrifices made by Soldiers from WWI to recent incidence of 26/11 at Mumbai.
‘Martyrs – A Salutation’ by Rakesh Walia & ‘Brave Hearts – The Indian Armed Forces’ has been retained for display at Philatelic Bureau, Chandigarh for next one month.
