Royal Mail has revealed the details of their ‘Great British Fashion’ stamps due for release on 15 May 2012 , with ten designers honoured.
The stamp set features the clothes of ten designers, charting the modern history of British fashion, from the 1940s styles of Hardy Amies, through to the bold shapes of Alexander McQueen. Other designers and boutiques represented include Vivienne Westwood, Zandra Rhodes and Granny Takes a Trip, the groovy psychedelic shop opened in London in 1965 which was often frequented by pop stars such as the Beatles and Pink Floyd. The Tommy Nutter stamp shows a suit made for Ringo Starr and has been recreated especially for the photo shoot. Meanwhile, the clothes of Paul Smith, who recently designed the Isle of Man’s Olympics stamps, are also featured.
The ten 1st class stamps honour the following designers: Hardy Amies, Norman Hartnell, Granny Takes a Trip, Celia Birtwell, Tommy Nutter, Jean Muir, Zandra Rhodes, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, Alexander McQueen. The stamps were designed by Johnson Banks, and are printed by Cartor Security Printing in lithography.
