Special Cover - AP-26-2021 - Dharmavaram Handloom Pattu Sarees & Paavadas.

Dharmavaram and nearby villages in Anantapur dist. of Andhra Pradesh weave silk sarees on handlooms. it is registered for Geo indication in 2010 for their unique feature of broad solid borders with contrast Pallus woven with brocaded golden patterns. Designs represent flowers, leaves, fruits, Peacocks, Elephants, pictures of epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata. 10,000 to 11,000 silk threads are used for saree. National Handloom Day is celebrated in commemoration of 'Swadeshi Movement' started on 07-08-1905 to support handlooms and use of Swadeshi goods.




Special Cover AP-28-2021 Atreyapuram Pootharekulu

Pootharekulu is a popular Indian sweet from Andhra Pradesh. The name of the recipe literally means 'coated sheet'. In Telugu - pootha means 'coating' and reku means 'sheet'. The sweet is wrapped in a wafer-thin rice starch layer resembling paper and is stuffed with jaggery, dry fruits and nuts. The sweet is popular for festivals, religious occasions and weddings in the Telugu states. It is believed that Atreyapuram has the history of making pootharekulu since three centuries as a cottage industry, where around 400 families are dependent on the making and marketing of this recipe. The annual turnover of the cottage industry is estimated 10 be around Rs. 3 crores.




Special Cover – KTK-29-2021 – Chilli Post – Attack on Chintapalle Police Station.

Alluri Sitaramaraju has started his fight against British by attacking police stations in the tribal area in the then Vizagapatam District. His war against British popularly known as "Manya Viplavam" or 'Bampa Revolution" started with the attack on Chintapalle Police Station on 22.08.1922. Revolutionaries had a unique way of dispatching messages to the officials about their intended attack on the police stations by tying up the message along with a bunch of chillies to an arrow. They would shoot the arrow in Ihe direction of the enemy 50, as to reach the message to the intended place. The revolutionaries called it "Mirapakaaya Tapa (Chilli-Post)" to create a scare to the British Government.



Special Cover – KTK-30-2021 – Sri Alluri Sitarama Raju Memorial.

After his first attack on Chintapalle Police Station, Sriramaraju went to Krishnadevipela Police Station on 23.08.1922. Sriramaraju collected small arms and ammunition from Krishnadevipeta Police Station without much resistance from the police. The District Magistrate Handerson sent a report to the Chief Secretary. wherein he reported that the attacks on Chintapalle and Krishnadevipela police stations are mainly to take away arms and ammunition, but not with any motive for plunder. He also reported that though there is a linkage with the civil disobedience movement with these attacks on police stations, the main reason for this revolt is yet to be known.

Special Cover - KTK-33-2021 Freedom Fighter - Sri Appikatla Joseph

Sri. Appikalla Joseph, was born in Ventrapragada Village, Krishna District on 15.07.1917. He participated in the Quit India Movement during the BritIsh Rule. He went to jail many times during that agitation. He worked with Bezawada Gapal Reddy (Andhra Tagore), Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy (Former President of India), Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu (Andhra Kesari), NG Ranga and Gowthu Lachhanna. He was an elected member of the First Parliament for the period 1949-1952 and was also elected as the Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council for the period 1966-1972. He played a key role in the establishment of Railway Junction at Vijayawada. He established ABM Upper Primary School with Boys hostel at Lambadipet, Vijayawada.

Special Cover – AP-35-2021 -Telineelapuram Bird Sanctuary

Telineelapuram Bird Sanctuary is located in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Telineelapuram has become a seasonal resort for the winged tourists. Every year, over 3000 migratory birds such as painted storks, adjutant storks and spot billed pelicans travel more than 6000 KM to make their way to this sanctuary from Germany, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Siberia in Russia and Hungary. The migration happens mostly in October every year. The birds stay in the sanctuary for seven months during which they lay eggs and hatch them. They leave the sanctuary between March to May along with their new-born babies, As observed by Researchers on Ornithology, the migratory movement of birds was first noticed over 15 years ago when the number of-birds was around 10000, which now reduced to around 3000. Locals call these birds as 'Divine Birds'.





 GI TAG Special Cover – AP-36-2021 Banaganapalli Mango

Banaganapalli (Baneshan) Mango is called" King of Mangoes". It received geographical indication tag in May 2017 for its sweetness. It's characteristics are golden yellow colour, soft, less fibre pulp and very light spots on the skin. The primary centre Is Banaganapalli of Kurnool district. It is grown over 100 years in AP, at present it is grown in 3.78 lakh hectares in 12 districts of Andhra Pradesh, with production of 49.26 lacs MTS per annum and annual turnover of Rs. 461 crores. The prime season for the fruit is mid-February to mid-July.

 


GI TAG  Special Cover AP-37-2021 Nimmalakunta leather puppets.

Nimmalakunta leather puppets are made of parchment leather, made out of goat skin with perforation hand painting to depict different characters from epics. These puppets are used in shadow puppetry shows called "Thotu Bommalata", a performing art for the role folk, particularly in the themes like Ramayana & Mahabharatha. The production has been diversified to lampshades, partition screens, wall decorative, Xmas hangings to suit the contemporary trends. it received GI tag in the year 2008.



 

GI TAG Special Cover - AP-38-2021 Bobbili Veena.

Veena is an age old popular musical instrument manufactured in Gollapalli Village in Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh. Bobbili Veena is a large plucked string instrument used in Carnatic Classical Music. It is carved out of a single piece of jack wood. The veena is named after Bobbili, a place where it was invented in 17th Century. At that time, playing veena was a common practice in India, especially South India. Bobbili kings were fond of music and encouraged sarvasiddi craftsmen to make this musical instrument. The craftsmen carve out 200 to 300 miniature veenas a month while it takes 20 days for a craftsman to make a professional Veena. Bobbili Veena has given rise to Veena sampradayam, whose exponents have earned acclaim from Indian and international audience. Bobbili Veena is a heritage pride of Andhra Pradesh and occupies an esteemed place among several age-old Indian musical instruments. In the year 2011, Bobbili Veena has been given Geographical Indication tag of Government of India.
