New Stamps from UNPA

Hi ! In today's post some nice stamps issued by UNPA on 6 August  2009 . A set of six commemorative stamps  on the theme "ECOSOC" (Economic and Social Council) was issued to illustrate the theme " Fight against  economic, social and health problems. The Economic and Social Council was established under the Charter of the United Nations as the principal organization to coordinate the economic, social and related work of the 14 UN specialized agencies, the nine functional commissions and the five regional commissions. The Council also receives reports from 11 United Nations funds and programmes. Here are the beautiful stamps, FDC and the Souvenir card. On 6 August 2009, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA)  issued a set of six commemorative stamps and a souvenir card on the theme "ECOSOC" (Economic and Social Council).

ECOSOC serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues, and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to Member States and the United Nations system. It is responsible for:

- Promoting higher standards of living, full employment, and economic and social progress;
- Identifying solutions to international economic, social and health problems;
- Facilitating international cultural and educational cooperation;
- Encouraging universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Here is the nice cover sent to me by Mr Shrikant Parikh from Ahmedabad. The cover shows very clear date of 7-8-9 on Registration label and normal round cancellation. My special thanks to Mr Parikh for this beautiful collectible item.

STAMPMANIA 2009….

  • Indian Philately pays its glorious tribute to the Indian history, culture, traditions, heritage, great Patriots and other people who have been the architects of modern India and Indian stamps are most beautiful and educative miniatures which plays pivoted role in helping people understand the heritage and culture of our country. Keeping this thought in mind, we have decided to organize a ‘Heritage Walk through Stamps’ as a part of Stampmania 2009 on 17th December 2009. Philatelists, School Children and local citizens will walk through the city holding Stamp blow-ups and magnified versions of the originals of Stamps on Indian Heritage. The objective is to motivate the people and especially school children to adopt the hobby of Philately and enable them to experience the culture and heritage of the Country.

  • Those who are visiting STAMPMANIA 2009 are requested to plan their schedule in such a way that they can participate in the ‘Heritage Walk through Stamps’. Please don’t miss this opportunity.

    New Special Cover and Stamp Booklet

  • As a part of STAMPMANIA 2009 and to celebrate 63rd Independence Day, we are going to release a Special Cover and a Stamp Booklet on 15th August 2009. The booklet will also contain Indian Flags used during the freedom movement of India. More information about the special cover and a booklet will be available very soon on our website www.stampmania2009.com . A separate email message will be circulated very soon.

  • As a part of ‘STAMPMANIA 2009’ the First National One Frame Philatelic Exhibition being organized by Baroda Philatelic Society, Vadodara from 17th to 20th December 2009 and to celebrate 63rd Independence Day of India, Baroda Philatelic Society with the help and support of Department of Post, is going to release a Special Commemorative Cover and a Stamp Booklet on 15th August 2009.

    Special Cover: Special Commemorative Cover depicts the Red Fort of Delhi and 9 different flags used during the freedom movement of India.

    Special Cancellation: Special Cancellation depicts Ashoka Chakra and two wings on two sides with text 63rd Independence Day in Hindi and English.

    Stamp Booklet: Cover Page of Stamp Booklet depicts Red Fort of Delhi and the inner cover page has been left blank. First page has a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with Tri Colour Flag and Jai Hind in Hindi and English. Next four pages of the booklet has been contributed to 8 different flags used during the freedom movement of India with information about those flags. Next page again depicts present Tricolour Flag and Red Fort - the Landmark of India's Freedom with description and next pages shows design of Special Cancellation used for Special Cover.One more blank page has been provided in the booklet and the last inner cover page pays tribute to Shri Venkayya who designed the Indian National Flag. During 1916 to 1921 he researched flags of 30 countries and finally came up with the present tricolour flag.

    The Special Cover and a Stamp Booklet will be released by Shri A. K. A. Joshi, Postmaster General of Vadodara Region at Vadodara Head Post Office at 10.30 AM.

    A strip of 9 different flags used during freedom movement of India, in sticker form will also be made available separately.
