International Men’s Day

International Men’s Day is an annual international event celebrated on 19 November. Inaugurated in 1992 on 7 February by Thomas Oaster, the project was re-initialised in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago. The longest running celebration of International men’s day is Malta, where events have occurred since 7 February 1994.To celebrate this special holiday Croatia Post Mostar has introduced an originally designed stamp .
International Men’s Day is celebrated on November 19th in more than 70 countries worldwide. The initiative for celebrating this day was started in 1999 on Trinidad and Tobago with an emphasize on the health of men and boys, promoting gender equality, and improving gender relations.
Particularly highlighted are men’s contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. Their very accomplishments are celebrated, positive and non-violent influence to the world, but highlights also discrimination towards men and boys. Also, their role in the fight against violence towards women and girls is also essential.
The life expectancy of men is shorter than it is of women because (according to some studies) men do not take enough care of their health. Men are more often diagnosed with cancer, and more often have heart attacks and strokes.
Support in celebrating this day is given by UN and many global known men like Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Morgan Freeman and others.
