Hi ! In today’s Post a very beautiful cover on Baliyatra issued by District Council of Culture in association with Orissa Philatelic Association, Cuttack. Baliyatra is a very speical festival of Cuttack organized at the bank of Mahanadi. I am pleased to write about this cover as I spent a long time in Bhubashwar and visited Cuttack many times but could not see this beautiful festival. Orissa is a state where all the festivals are celebrated with great ferver representing the rich cultural heritage of Orissa. On 2-11-2009 one special cover was issued by District Council of Culture,Cuttack(under District Administration) in association with Orissa Philatelic Association on the occasion of Baliyatra Utsab (From 2-11-2009 to 9-11-2009) at Baliyatra ground.The cover was released by Honorable Minister of Revenue, Mr.Surya Narayan Patra.The cover and cachet was designed by Mr.Pradip Mohanty,Secretary,Orissa Philatelic Association.One brochure was also designed with description of Baliyatra in English and Oriya .
The cover depicts the "Boita" wind propelled boat with the background of people observing the "boita bandana" ,memorising the past maritime history of Orissa(Utkal-Kalinga).The Cancellation depicts the wind propelled boat. Stampmania 2009 Updates
Special Postcard on Sardar Patel Jayanti
As a part of ‘STAMPMANIA 2009’ the First National One Frame Philatelic Exhibition being organized by Baroda Philatelic Society, Vadodara from 17th to 20th December 2009 and to celebrate 135th Birth Day of Sardar Patel, Baroda Philatelic Society has released a Special Printed Postcard on 31.10.2009.
The postcard has been mailed from Nadiad (Birth Place of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel) on 31.10.2009 and delivered at Karamsad (Home Town of Sardar Patel). Self adhesive labels on Sardar Patel & Mahatma Gandhi with motif of Swarnim Gujarat (Glorious 50 Years of Gujarat) were also released on 31.10.2009. The Postcards with extra set of one each label will be available at the cost of Rs. 25 each (plus postage) from Baroda Philatelic Society. News from EIPA, Bhubaneshwar
Eastern India Philatelists' Association, Bhubaneswar has sponsored a special prize for the Best Exhibit on Environment for the Stampmania-2009. The prize will be in the shape of Filigree work of Orissa in silver. The enrollment fees for the life membership of EIPA has been reduced to 50% ( i.e. from Rs.1000/- to Rs.500/-) during Stampmania-2009 at the exhibition only. Orissa is representing a good number of exhibits to Stampmania-2009. Hence any philatelist who will be interested to be the life member of EIPA may take the opportunity during the exhibition at the venue only. The forms, will be available with Mr. Shanti Swarup Rath at the venue. EIPA is also going to organize a State level philatelic exhibition during January, 2010 at Bhubaneswar on the theme Environment. The final date will be decided very shortly after formation of the new General Body of EIPA on 08.11.09 during its Annual General Body Meeting at Bhubaneswar.
