4th August was the Birth Anniversary of great singer of Indian Cinema, Kishore Kumar. He was the most versatile actor singer, composr and director of Indian Film Industry. His first Hindi song appeared in the film Ziddi in 1948 . After that there were a number of hit films like Door Gagan ki Chhaon Men, Chlati Ka Naam Gaadi, Padosan, Aaradhana etc. The yodelling style of Kishore Kumar had the entire nation cheering for him. His laughter and tears interlaced his music. He was honoured with several awards including eight Filmfare awards. A postage stamp was issued in his memory on 15th May 2003 with other three great singers. Please refer to my post of 31st July on Mohd. Rafi. Today Kishore Kumar's voice is copied by many singers but none could take his place. His voice will remain golden for ever among the music lovers.

PRAGA 2008

This issue is designed to promote the World Stamp Exhibition PRAGA 2008 which is to be held on September 12-14, 2008 at the Prague-Holešovice Exhibition Grounds. Together with the Little and Large Palffy Gardens, Kolowrat Garden and the Little and Large Fürstenberg Gardens, Ledeburk Garden is a part of the system of joined palace gardens located on the southern hillside below the Prague Castle. The gardens were created as independent ones in the 18th century; as such, they have each a different design and specific character. Ledeburk Garden has an area of 0.18 ha. The garden, located at 205-230 m above the sea level, was created at the early 18th century. In 1787, when it became the property of the Kolowrat family, it was re-designed by I. J. Palliardi in the middle Baroque style. The garden has two parts. The lower one is on a level ground in the width of the palace, the upper one of a half-width on a downhill area is arranged into five terraces connected with balustraded stairs. A small eight-side pavilion is erected at the top axis. The palace parterre contains a three-part sala terrena rich in decorative stuccoes and mythological scenes painted by V. V. Reiner in 1730. The opposite side of the parterre, featured on the postage stamp, both closes the lower part of the garden and connects it with the terraces via a two-arm stairway. It is decorated with a fountain with fighting Hercules. Another fountain is in the middle of the green parterre. The garden decorations include, but are not limited to, a couple of functioning sundials and the female nude "Fertility" by J. Štursa (1920). Ledeburk Garden underwent a demanding reconstruction; together with the adjoining Little Palffy Garden it was re-opened to the public in June 1995.
