New Special Cover on Baton Relay - Lucknow

Hi ! here is a new Special Cover on queen’s Baton Relay , released on 9 July 2010 at Lucknow. The beautiful design of the cover depicts important art work, and landmark of Lucknow. Thanks to Mr Ashwani Dubey of Gorakhpur (UP) for today’s Post. India Post has scheduled 37 Special Covers at various places in India on 'Queen's Baton Relay'. The Baton will travel to 37 different places in India and all such places one special cover will be released. Sp. Cancellation design will remain same at all the places. New Stamps from Bhutan

Hi ! Here are some a nice stamps issued by Bhutan to commemorate 16th SAARC Summit. A set of 8 stamps on a sheetlet feature flags of SAARC Nations. A Miniature sheet was also issued with a single stamp showing flags of SAARC countries. Well. both items are very nice and would be very much liked by those collecting stamps on Flags. India Post is going to issue a postage stamp on famous Puri Rathyatra. A special stamp release ceremony will be held in Bhubaneshwar on 12th July. A good news for all. The stamp on 'Rathyatra Puri' will be released on 12.07.2010 at Jayadev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. The stamp will be released by Sri Gurudas Kamat, Hon'ble Union Minister of State, Communication & IT in a State Level function at 11.30 AM. Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri Naveen Patnaik will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. The function will be presided over by Sri Prafulla Samal, Hon'ble Minister, Panchayati Raj and Information & Public Relations. Dr. PrasannaKumar Patsani, Hon'ble MP, Sri Bijay Kumar Mohanty, Hon'ble MLA, Ms. Hilda Abraham, CPMG, Orissa & Sri Tarun Kanti Mishra, Chief Secretary, Govy. of Orissa are other dignitaries who will attend the function. You are requested to make it convenient to attend the function and make the function a grand success. Limited invitation cards are also available at the Philatelic Bureau. Those who want to take the card can collect the same on working days during 10.30 AM to 2.00 PM from the madam-in-charge.

Hi ! here are some recent Indian Issues . Tomorrow, India Post will issue a set of stamps on Sparrow and Pigeons. Here are some interesting links for Nature Lovers. In my morning Post, I wrote about special cover issued by HP circle on Queen’s Baton Relay…..There was a mistake in Hindi spelling of Relay on the cancellation. The same mistake can be seen on Miniature Sheet of this issue too…I received a comment from my reader Niket Bubna from US..on the same issue…Yes Niket you are absolutely right in your point…such mistakes can be easily avoided if checked by experts timely before finalizing the design of stamp / cancellation. This is a negligence by India Post as spelling mistakes in Hindi are often seen on stamps and postmarks ! It must not happen in future…..It is a disgrace to our National Language ! Hi ! Here is the recent special cover issued by HP Postal Circle on Queen’s Baton Relay. The cover was released on 5 July 2010 at Shimla. The main design of the cover depicts Architectural and Cultural Heritage of Himachal Pradesh.My thanks to Ms Bhumika Sharma of Shimla who sent info about this special cover. But what I notice on  the cancellation is that the word relay in Hindi  has been wrongly  spelt . I have a nice FDC from Hong Kong to share here with all of you sent by Ivan Wong from Hong Kong ! Thanks Ivan for this FDC but unfortunately it has been cancelled by pen too at the Post office.. This FDC features famous Streets of Hong Kong. Here is an unusual stamp featured above issued by Austrian Post on 3rd July 2010, commemorating the 15th Rainbow Parade in Vienna. This is the first time in the world that a postal authority has issued a special stamp on a gay/lesbian occasion. “Austrian Post has written a philatelic history by issuing a stamp for this event,With a face value of 55 euro cents, the postage for a standard letter or postcard within Austria, 250,000 stamps have been printed.

Rainbow Parade

Gay couples holding hands as they walk through the city fighting for gay rights.Vienna's Rainbow Parade circles the grand boulevards in a demonstration of gay pride, attracting around 100,000 revelers. Numerous floats blast out classical music and the obligatory banging techno. Vienna's trams carry rainbow flags in the run-up to the parade.

The parade route takes in the grand architecture of the Stock Exchange, Vienna University, City Hall and Parliament, leading to the Imperial Palace, where the Rainbow Celebration then gets under way at the Heldenplatz.
