Check List for the Stamps issued worldwide in 2011 related to the theme of ‘UNESCO - World Heritage

(This is a compilation of the information received from different resources. The purpose for this compilation is to share information with the philatelist. It is not being claimed that the list is complete. It is based on the information could be collected so far. Anyone who wishes to share additional information is heartily welcome.)

JANUARY 2011:

Krishndevaraya (India): Krishnadeveraya was the famous ruler of Vijayanagar Empire who reigned from 1509-1529 AD. ‘Group of Monuments at Hampi’ is located within the ruins of former capital of Vijayanagar Empire. The Vittala Temple and Stone Chariot at Hampi can be seen over this Miniature Sheet.

National Park Kellerwald-Edersee (Germany): Kellerwald-Edersee National Park’s assets include Germany’s largest contiguous beech woodlands. The ancient Beech Forests of Germany figures in World Natural Heritage list. Self-adhesive stamp with same design but smaller in size was also released.

FEBRUARY 2011:

Japan – Germany Joint issue: The subject of ‘Japan – Germany Joint issue’ was two culturally rich cities figured in the World Heritage list namely ‘Ancient city of Nara’ in Japan & ‘Old Town of Regensburg’ in Germany.

Germany – Japan Joint issue: Stamps in similar designs on Regensburg and Nara were released as ‘Germany – Japan Joint issue’ also. This set was also released as self-adhesive stamps in smaller size but same design.

SAN MARINO: Souvenir Sheet with six stamps depicting Historic Monuments of San Marino at Mount Titano was released in February 2011 to commemorate the new (simplified) ‘Coat of Arms’. The last words of the Founder of the oldest surviving Republic, San Marino, in the world Saint Marinus – “Relinquo vos liberos ab utroque homine (I leave you free from both men)” is also depicted on this S/S.

Highlights of Belgium: Belgium Post issued a booklet containing of five self-adhesive stamps with permanent value ‘for all countries’. Belfries of Anvers, Gand and Brugges, the World Heritage Monuments, are depicted over one of the stamp in this booklet.

MARCH 2011:

Italy – Brazil joint issue: The Colosseum of Rome, the World Heritage monument was depicted over the stamp issued as Italy – Brazil joint issue.

Valetta (Malta): As 2011 SEPAC (Small European Postal Administrations Corporation) issue Malta released a set of three stamps on Treasures of Malta – Landscapes. The landscape of ‘City of Valetta’ is beautifully depicted over the stamp of the face value of 19 Eurocents.

APRIL 2011:

Angers, Moine-et-Loire (France): The castle of Angers, a town situated in Moine-et-Loire department of France is shown on the stamp issued. This castle is among the World Heritage monuments of the Cultural Landscape of ‘Loire Valley’.

Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa (Slovakia): Dobšinská Ice Cave or Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa (in Slovak) is an ice cave in Slovakia, near the mining town of Dobšiná. Since 2000 it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list as a part of ‘Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst’ site.

Mauritius in World Heritage: A set of four stamps on ‘Mauritius in World Heritage’ was released in Mauritius. Two stamps each are on ‘Apravasi Ghat’ and ‘Le Morne Cultural Landscape’, the World Heritage sites in Mauritius.

Visit Israel: A set of three stamps on ‘Visit Israel’ was released by Israel Postal Authority. ‘The Citadel of David and the Ottoman Wall of Jerusalem’, a World Heritage monument is depicted over the stamp with face value of 6.00 NIS.

Gothic Art (France): A stamp booklet containing twelve self-adhesive stamps of Priority letter rate was released on ‘Gothic Art’ by the postal authority of France. The stamps in this booklet depict the Gothic Art of cathedrals of France in World Heritage list. They include the Cathedrals of Amiens, Paris, Bourges, Strasbourg and Chartres.

MAY 2011:

Reims Cathedral (France): A beautiful Souvenir Sheet with two circular stamps was issued in France to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Reims Cathedral, a World Heritage monument.

Alhambra in Granada (Spain): Souvenir Sheet with one circular stamp on the World Heritage – Alhambra in Granada was issued in Spain. The court of Lion of the Alhambra Castle is depicted in the stamp area.

Beech Forests (Slovakia): The theme for Europa Stamp was Forest for the year of 2011. Slovakia issued Europa stamp on Beech Forests, a World Natural Heritage property.
