The German Post has issued a stamp to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the case of the Gottingen Seven.
The Gottingen Seven were a group of seven professors from the University of Gottingen, Germany. In 1837 they protested against the abolition or alteration of the constitution of the Kingdom of Hanover by Ernest Augustus and refused to swear an oath to the new king of Hanover. The company of seven was led by Friedrich Christoph Dahlmann, who himself was one of the key advocates of the unadulterated constitution. The other six were the Germanist brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm (famed fairy tale and folk tale writers and storytellers; known together as the Brothers Grimm), the jurist Wilhelm Eduard Albrecht, the historian Georg Gottfried Gervinus, the physicist Wilhelm Eduard Weber, and the theologian and orientalist Heinrich Georg August Ewald.
Grimm Brothers
Commemorating the 175th anniversary of this political event in the pre-March era of the German Confederation in 1837. Cabinet exhibition in the Brothers Grimm Museum Kassel
November 2012 is the 175th anniversary of the famous protest of the seven Göttingen professors who courageously opposed the reactionary efforts of the Hannoverian King Ernst August and in the pre-March era made an important contribution to the political development and civil discussion in Germany. Apart from Dahlmann and Gervinus, the Grimm brothers especially played an outstanding role, whose 1838 vindication text on the incidents in the fall 1837 linger to this day. This cabinet exhibition, based on numerous previously little-noted documents in the Brothers Grimm Museum, will pay tribute to the activity of all the "Göttingen Seven" and their politically relevant discourse.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Corporation, has opened the 28th Asian International Stamp Exhibition (Sharjah 2012), hosted by the Emirates Philatelic Association (EPA) at Mega Mall Sharjah.
The exhibition, held under the patronage of the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (FIAP), boasts some 200 exhibitors and 30 dealers from 24 countries, and will run until November 25.
Michael Ho, FIAP coordinator for Sharjah 2012, said: "Philately in the GCC countries has been booming, with the standards becoming higher and higher. Promotion and education of philately to the local Arabic population is continuous as can be seen from the Sharjah 2011, the Second Sharjah Arabian Stamp Exhibition held in October 2011 and of course, this year's much anticipated Sharjah 2012. Through events like this, we are looking forward to a seeing the science go from strength to strength in the region.”One of the highlights of Sharjah 2012 is that it provides an opportunity for young stamp collectors to make their mark in the ‘Youth Philately' class in the age categories 10-15 years, 16-18 years or 19-21 years.
Seasoned philatelists are also able to compete in 13 separate classes, including Traditional Philately, Postal History, Thematic Philately and Aerophilately, as well as the coveted FIAP Championship Class, which is only open to collections that have been awarded at least three large gold medals at exhibitions patronised by FIP/FIAP over the past 10 years. Awards, including large gold medals, gold medals, large vermeil medals, vermeil medals, large silver medals, silver medals, silver bronze medals, bronze medals and certificates of participation will be presented in each category. The results from the first round of judging — which commenced two days prior to the opening of the show — have already been announced and the selection of Grand Prix candidates by the presidium will be held today.
The six-day event further boasts an exciting programme of activities and seminars. Those visiting the exhibition on Thursday can look forward to English language FIAP Philatelic seminars on ‘A simple and enjoyable way to form your first thematic exhibit' and ‘Understanding postal history and forming your postal history exhibit' and an Arabic language lecture on ‘How to prepare your exhibit', as well as a Philatelic auction.
Commenting on the exhibition, Laura Watts, Mega Mall General Manager, said: "We've been planning the event in conjunction with the Emirates Philatelic Association with the objective of creating an event that is interactive and educational and fun for all and, following the success of the opening ceremony we are excited to be welcoming visitors throughout the week.” – Khaleej Times
On the occasion, Abdulla Mohammed Tayyeb Khoory, president of the EPA, commented, "Stamp collection is a centuries' old hobby, and a very competitive one at that, indulged by kings and princes. Like books of history, stamps can accurately reflect the history, geography, political changes, and economy of the issuing country."

The US Postal Service will issue a souvenir sheet on 30th November 2012 to commemorate Centennial of the birth of Lady Bird Johnson (1912-2007) and celebrates her commitment to projects to preserve and enhance Natural Heritage of America.
The Lady Bird Johnson souvenir sheet features six stamps, a quote from the First Lady reflecting her belief that the environment is our common ground, and a black-and-white image of the First Lady taken from a family photograph shot in 1963 by Yoichi Okamoto. Text on the back of the stamp sheet highlights a few of Lady Bird Johnson’s many successes. The single stamp on the right side of the sheet features her official White House portrait, an oil painting by Elizabeth Shoumatoff showing the seated First Lady wearing an empire-waist gown of buttercup yellow.
The five stamps on the left, adaptations of stamps originally issued in the 1960s commemorate the visible legacy left by her projects — and to encourage others to follow.
The top stamp reads “Plant for more Beautiful Streets” and shows a row of blooming crab apple trees along a paved suburban road.
The second from the top offers the encouragement to “Plant for more Beautiful Parks,” with an image of a field of daffodils along the Potomac River with the Washington Monument in the background.
“Plant for a more Beautiful America,” the center stamp, depicts the Jefferson Memorial in the background seen through branches of flowering cherry blossoms.
The fourth stamp is a scene of yellow and blue wildflowers along a highway with the caption “Plant for more Beautiful Highways.”
The last stamp, which reads “Plant for more Beautiful Cities,” shows plantings of pink and red azaleas and white tulips with the U.S. Capitol in the distance.
The original engraved stamps featuring art by Walter D. Richards (four stamps, issued in 1969) and Gyo Fujikawa (center stamp, issued in 1966) have been adapted for printing in offset lithography by artist Paloma Alcalá of Alexandria, VA.
