New Stamps on Girl Guides

Hong Kong Girl Guides, established in 1916, has been committed to helping local girls and young women to achieve balanced and all-round development and empowering them to become responsible global citizens through various training activities.
To celebrate the centenary of this Association Hong Kong Post introduced four inspiring and well-designed stamps incorporating badges of four training areas (i.e. Service, Character, Fitness and Skill) in the background. The stamps also illustrate the development of Hong Kong Girl Guides by featuring their uniforms from different periods.
$1.70 – The stamp features the current Hong Kong Girl Guide uniform, with the “First Aid Badge”, “AIDS Knowledge Badge”, “Environmental Protection Badge” and “Community Health Badge” as the background. A Promise Badge, the emblem of the Association, is pinned on the scarf of the uniform. A stylised version of the Chinese character “Gwong”, meaning the first light, is incorporated at the centre of the emblem to symbolise the spirit of the Girl Guide Movement: guiding people onto the bright path.
$2.90 – The stamp depicts the uniform of the Brownies in the 1970s. The interest badges “Against Corruption”, “Book Lover”, “Friendship” and “Thrift” are showcased in the stamp background. Each Brownie Pack has its own name. The oldest current Brownie Pack in Hong Kong is the “1st Island Pack”.
$3.70 – The stamp showcases the Sea Rangers’ uniform from the 1940s to 1970s. The stamp background is decorated with the “Orienteering Badge”, “Country Walking Badge”, “Basic Survival Badge” and “Star Gazing Badge”. The Ranger training is based on a “self-governing and self-programming” principle. They have more flexibility in deciding the context of meetings, group activities and the personal training programme.
$5 – The stamp portrays the Brownies’ uniform for the Chinese from the 1920s to 1930s. The “Artist Badge”, “Signaller Badge”, “Craft Badge” and “Knotter Badge” are featured in the background. The then Brownies’ uniform was in distinctive Chinese style.
This set of four commemorative stamps exquisitely depicts Hong Kong Girl Guide uniforms from different eras on a light yellow background. The perforation of the stamps in the souvenir sheet, which delineates the emblem of the Association, is unique in design.
