25.03.2013 :

The District Level Philatelic Exhibition, BHUPEX-2013 was inaugurated at 10.30AM on 25.03.2013 by Padma Vibhusan Sj. Ragunath Mohapatra on 25.03.2013 at Jaydev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.

Addressing the gathering participated by school children and philatelists , Padma Vibhusan (2013 ) Sj. Raghunath Mohapatra, noted architect and sculptor and member of prestigious Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) praised the contribution of India Post towards the rich heritage of India through release postage stamps and informed the authorities to avail the opportunity of collecting rare materials inherited from his ancestors and possessed by him on cultural and aesthetic aspects for release of stamps.

Presenting a paper “Why shall I collect stamp” Sri Shanti Swarup Rath, eminent philatelist and member of EIPA encouraged the participating school children.

Sri Ajit Kumar Dash, Secretary, Eastern India Philatelists’ Association while addressing the gathering as Hon’ble Speaker expressed concern over irregular conductance of both State level and District level philatelic exhibitions in Odisha. After a gap of 5 years BHUPEX-2013 has been arranged. He urged for annual exhibitions regularly for creating interest amongst the youngsters towards philately. According to him the percentage of commemorative stamps released on people and places of Odisha is too low and highly unsatisfactory in comparison to other states in India. The reason is that the representation of Odisha in National Philatelic Advisory Board is only one. Thus he requested the postal administration to nominate more personalities for a huge representation in NPAB. He also requested the postal authorities to arrange for additional space in both the Philatelic Bureau at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for displaying collections of eminent philatelists.

On the occasion, a special cover on Shanti Stupa, Dhauli was released and the first “My Stamp” was released with the photograph of Sj. Raghunath Mohapatra. In the end, a philatelic quiz competition was held amongst the participating school children.

Cute Bush Babies from Australia..

Bush

This is the second in the Bush Babies stamp series by Australia post produced in co-ordination with the Perth Mint’s release of bush baby coins. Bush Babies II features five more young Australian animals – platypus, echidna, brush-tailed possum, kookaburra and wombat. The stamps capture the whimsy and character of these young Australian animals.

Bush Bush

Scientists didn’t know what to make of the platypus when they first saw this strange animal that lives in water and on land, has a duck-like bill, a tail and short squat legs. The platypus is a monotreme – egg-laying mammal – and is protected in Australia.

Largely covered with strong pointed spines which protect it from predators, the echidna also has a long snout and sharp claws, both used in its search for food. The echidna shares with the platypus the rare distinction of being a monotreme – they are the only two in the world – and is protected in Australia.

A marsupial, the brush-tailed possum is the most common possum in Australia, found all long the east coast of the country. It is very active at night and sleeps most of the day.

The Wombat is among Australia’s favourite animals, and loves to forage at night on native grasses, shrubs and trees before returning to its burrow for the day.

The Kookaburra is the world’s largest kingfisher, and is best known for its rather hysterical laughing call. It is a meat-eater preying on lizards, snakes, insects, mice and other small birds.

Chocolate stamps from Belgium

1103-large

Belgium post launched new exclusive chocolate stamps to awake the senses. Their adhesive layer is flavored with chocolate and the stamp itself also releases a fragrance of chocolate.
Many stamps issued by Belgium were devoted to “Chocolate”. In 1999, it was the process of chocolate producing which was honored; in 2006, the issue devoted to Belgian gastronomy had booked a place to the chocolate.

The five new stamps illustrate chocolate in all its forms: granules, pralines, chocolate spread, lumps and bars. Tony Le Duc, gastronomic photographer, and Kathleen Miller, graphic artist, were responsible for the design of stamps and sheet.

The chocolate taste was incorporated in the gummed part of stamps in the form of essential oil of cocoa, so it releases when licked. The stamps have also chocolate aroma, which rises from the ink to which the flavoring was added. It’s not the first time when a scented postage stamp is issued, but this scent is now combined with taste, which is an absolute premiere.

It wasn’t an easy task to find the scent and taste of dark chocolate that characterize Belgian chocolate. Partners from at least four countries (Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland) worked it out jointly.

International Year of Water Cooperation 2013

 image

Hi !

Here is a beautiful stamp issued on World Water Day by Brazil Post. The stamp also commemorates the International Year of Water Cooperation. The stamp design is very innovative. The stamp design is represented by the peaceful and sustainable use of water resources through the use of a dropper that goes inside, outside and around the globe. Water is displayed cyclically, symbolizing sustainable use. It is a wonderful item for environment theme.

This is all for Today…More in next Post….Have a Nice Time !

Brazilian stamp block commemorating Frutal and the International Year of Water Cooperation was issued. Frutal was commemorated on the International Year of Water Cooperation stamps by the Brazilian Correios as one of three cities hosting the UNESCO-HidroEX. The event took place on Friday, 22 of March.

This souvenir  sheet  highlights its accessibility to the entire planet. The design conveys the water effect on our planet and people: a piece of arid soil being taken by green trees, planting favours human development, environmental integrity and the eradication of poverty and hunger.

Above the block, there is the logo of the International Year of Water Cooperation - 2013. Inspired by this brand, in the background, there is an abundant amount of water in motion to give organic rhythm, life and strength to the composition.

World Water Day - 22 March

image

Clean water is the world’s most prestigious and rarest assets and essential need of everyone’s daily life. An average person in the world consumes more than 100 liters of clean water per day but  some people living in sub-Saharan Africa and other developing areas have to survive with 20 liters or less for full day.So Water is precious and we must conserve it !! Today is World Water Day and it  is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

image

An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.

image

Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. In 2013, in reflection of the International Year of Water Cooperation, World Water Day is also dedicated to the theme of cooperation around water and is coordinated by UNESCO in collaboration with UNECE and UNDESA on behalf of UN-Water.

image

On the occasion of World Water Day on 22 March, celebrations and events are taking place worldwide. People all around the world take action to raise awareness on water issues and improve the management of our water resources.
