Belgium (La Poste) has opted for a traditional look to its 2008 Chistmas stamps, and part of the stamp revenue is to go towards eliminating illiteracy in Belgium.La Poste hopes to raise around 800,000 euros for projects aimed at improving skills in reading and writing. Illiteracy remains a major social problem in Belgium, with approximately one in ten people unable to read and write or not of a high enough standard.La Poste said it created a real problem of exclusion when people are not able to even read simple messages at home or in street. This year, the Belgium Christmas stamps is a reproduction of a stained glass window of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, offered by the Belgian State in 1926
