Smile Train is a not-for-profit,  organization based in New York City with the mission of providing free corrective surgery for children with cleft lip and palate in about 80 developing countries. Founded in 1999, Smile Train focuses on providing free cleft-related training for doctors and medical professionals. Smile Train uses technology including surgery-training software and grading of operations via digital imaging to increase efficiency.

 

Hi ! After a gap I have started giving regular updates on new stamps and other philatelic activities. I have received covers of 11.11.11 from my friends and readers which I would publish soon. India Post issued a new postage stamp on The Smile Train – Cleft Surgery on 6 December 2011.

Europa 2012 stamps..

The theme of 2012 Europa stamps is Visit…All the stamps will be issued on Tourism theme . Well these are wonderful stamps and I would definitely like to collect them all as Tourism is my specialized theme. Tributes to Legendary actor of Indian Cinema –Dev Anand

Dev Anand (26 September 1923 – 3 December 2011),was an Indian film actor, director and producer known for his work in Hindi cinema. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contribution to Indian cinema. His career spanned more than 65 years.One of his most popular films was Guide, based on a novel by celebrated Indian writer RK Narayan. Dev Anand died on 3 December 2011 in London of a heart attack.

He was known as the Adonis of Indian cinema for his good looks and the ease with which he played romantic roles.His films included Guide, Paying Guest and Jewel Thief. He continued to direct almost until his death, releasing his last film, Chargesheet, in September.

Over the course of his 65-year career, which began in 1946, Anand became one of India's iconic actor-directors.

India Post had issued a stamp on Jain Saint Jaimal Ji Maharaj on 25-09-2011. A special cover was issued at Chennai on four years ago on the same date i.e. 25-09-2007. Here is a combination cover  on Jaimal Ji Maharaj with the special cancellation of 25-09-2007 and first day cancellation on 25-09-2011.

Eastern India Philatelists Association (EIPA), Utkal Philatelists and Numismatic Association (UPNA), Cuttack and Orissa Philatelic Association (OPA), Cuttack is active registered organisation in Odisha for promotion, propagation and development of stamp collection hobby among the youth and adult of the state. Exploring the potential, positive and rewarding atmosphere among the school students of Bhubaneswar EIPA has more than 100 life members and few dozens of annual members has the feather of participating in National and International exhibition; organising EIPEX, 2008; Competition among children in various district levels; Forming Youth philatelic club during past few years with the help of Department of Post, Odisha circle, Government of India. Making one step forward, next year EIPA in association with UPNA, OPA & Dept. of Post is going to organise 1st Odisha Stamp Mela-2012 (school level competition, Dealers-Philatelists Meet) as per the date and venue given in the programme schedule below. To develop the interpersonal skill among the participating students General Knowledge, Quiz, Stamp design and team/individual One frame exhibit preparation competition are invited from school of Bhubaneswar (3 students in each categories from one school) to get their name registered with requisite entry fees. The last date of submitting registration form at our event office Plot No- 969/2436, Forest Park, Bhubaneswar-751 009, Odisha by cash/DD before 18.12.011 (GK & QUIZ, STAMP DESIGN & ONE FRAME EXHIBIT) . Late and incomplete forms will be rejected and no correspondence by phone or letter in this regard will be entertain thereafter.

3rd and 4th DAY (7-8th January, 2012)- Prize distribution to Winners, Display of twenty Youth exhibit for

Evaluation and 1st ODISHA STAMP MELA, 2012

Venue -  Hotel Keshari, Master Canteen, Bhubaneswar

ONE FRAME STAMP EXHIBIT (SKILL DEVELOPMENT):

One school has to send a team of four students or any individual to participate in the competition. Each group will be provided with a kits of bag comprise of 200 used stamps, 16 A-4 size white pages, mount, outer protective sheets etc. The stamps offered are from one type of theme or materials. After registration on 15.12.011, each group will be handed over the kit bags and an instruction page “HOW TO PREPARE ONE FRAME EXHIBIT”. Tips for preparation of exhibit will be explained by National award winning philatelists in a workshop and power point presentation on 15.12.011. The groups are allowed 7 days’ time to prepare an exhibit at their respective school and bring it back on 25th for evaluation by eminent philatelist of Odisha. 20 exhibits will be selected for final round of evaluation and best three will be awarded.
