Stamp on Commonwealth Games by Gibraltar

gib 2

Date of Issue – 20 October 2010

Hi ! It is interesting to note that Gibraltar issues a Miniature Sheet on CWG today when the games have already been over a week earlier.  I wrote on my Blog sometimes back that it was issued on 20 August 2010 as the same  date appeared  on their website on a FDC. However the date of issue on their website was given 20 October. But it gave the impression to visitors that the date was wrongly mentioned. This date (20 August 2010) seems quite correct as the stamp issued to mark an event should have been released either during the event or before the event. Today the website of Gibraltar Post announces the release of above MS today i.e. on 20 October. It proves that the date of issuance of stamps are not only postponed in India but in other countries too due to certain reasons better known to them. However  a commemorative stamp issued  after the event  loses its importance. This is all for Today….Till Next Post….Have a Nice Time !!

Best EUROPA Stamp

PostEurop has announced the winning stamp to be the entry from Magyar Posta (Hungary Post) which featured the storybook illustrations of the Hungarian Kossuth Prize winning graphic designer Karoly Reich. The designs of the stamps, the border and the first day cover captured moments from the infamous story of the little bear much loved by Hungarian readers, Vackor.

The close first-runner of the EUROPA Stamp competition went to Posta Slovenije, postal operator from Slovenia and finally, the second-runner up of the EUROPA Stamp competition went to Hrvatska posta (Croatia).

Indigenous People 2010

On 21 October 2010, the United Nations Postal Administration will issue 18 commemorative stamps in a mini-sheet format of six stamps each on the theme "Indigenous People". This is the second set of stamps on this theme.

un 3

Indigenous people are the inheritors and practitioners of unique cultures and ways of relating to other people and to the environment. Indigenous people have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Despite their cultural differences, the various groups of indigenous people around the world share common problems related to the protection of their rights as distinct peoples.

un 5

Indigenous people around the world have sought recognition of their identities, their ways of life and their right to traditional lands, territories and natural resources; yet throughout history, their rights have been violated. Indigenous peoples are arguably among the most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups of people in the world today. The international community now recognizes that special measures are required to protect the rights of the world's indigenous peoples.
