Postal Department organized a 'Special Cover and Cancellation’ release program on GI product on 26 June 2024  at Hindi Bhawan, Jaunpur. The chief guest of the program, Postmaster General of Varanasi Region, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav released a Special Cover and Cancellation on 'Jaunpur Imarti', the first GI product of Jaunpur district that has received Geographical Indication.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that along with its historical value, Jaunpur has also been rich in terms of cuisine. The history of Jaunpur's Imarti dates back to the British rule period (about 200 years). It is in high demand in the country and abroad. In view of its geographical uniqueness, it has been granted Geographical Indication by the Government of India on March 30, 2024. It is the first product of Jaunpur to receive this status. Mr. Yadav said ,The special cover on it will lead to its global branding and wide publicity. This also takes forward the Prime Minister's concept of 'Vocal for Local'. The Postal Department has an important role in transmitting India's rich heritage to the next generations through postage stamps and special covers, said Mr. Yadav.

Postmaster General Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav said that 34 products around Varanasi have received GI. This is the highest in any region of the world. These GI products have an annual turnover of about twenty-five thousand crores and 20 lakh people are directly and indirectly benefited.

Postmaster General Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav also added that Jaunpur Imarti is completely different from ordinary Imarti. It is specially cooked on low flame and the ingredients used in it include Desi Sugar (Khandsari), Desi Ghee and Urad Dal. It is so soft that it melts in the mouth.

Superintendent of Post Offices Parmanand Kumar said that the said special cover with Cancellation issued on Jaunpur Imarti will be available at Jaunpur Head Post Office and Varanasi Philatelic Bureau for Rs. 25/-.

It is organised by WindEurope and GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council). It is a day when wind energy is celebrated, information is exchanged and adults and children find out about wind energy, its power and the possibilities it holds to change the world.

Sharing this wonderful souvenir sheet from Armenia. The design of the stamp is so beautiful and unique. The theme of EUROPA 2024 is under water Flora and Fauna. 



On June 12th, 2024, a souvenir sheet with one postage stamp dedicated to the theme “International. Europa 2024. Underwater Fauna & Flora” has been put into circulation.

The postage stamp of the souvenir sheet with the nominal value of 500 AMD depicts a big eye of a fish in which the underwater fauna and flora of Armenia is reflected. Particularly, the postage stamp reflects the images of a crayfish, a snake, underwater plants as well as different types of fish (i.e. Salmo ischchan gegarkuni, Capoeta capoeta sevangi, Sevan barbel) endemic to the underwater world of freshwater Lake Sevan and rivers of Armenia.

The stamp is issued within the frames of “EUROPA” annual International Competition of the Association of European Postal Operators (PostEurop). EUROPA stamps underline the development of the cooperation among European Postal Operators.

On 5 June 2024, a special cancellation was issued by Karnataka Postal Circle on the occasion of World Environment Day. World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration, stopping desertification and building drought resilience. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the global host of this year's edition.

New Special Cover : Baobab Tree

Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav released a special cover on the historical tree 'Baobab' situated on the banks of Ganga in Prayagraj.The age of the 'Baobab tree' situated near the Sangam coast in Jhunsi, Prayagraj is estimated between 750 to 1350 years old, a rare tree of the Adansonia Digitata species of Africa. The historical and rare tree 'Baobab' situated on the banks of Sangam in Prayagraj is now on special postal cover.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that Prayagraj and its Sangam coast have preserved many mythological, historical and rich heritages for centuries. The 'Baobab tree' of the Adansonia Digitata species of Africa is also one of them. In such a situation, its historicity, scientific and medicinal qualities will be spread worldwide through special cover with cancellation and it will also facilitate to connect it with research and tourism. Shri Yadav said that there has been curiosity for centuries about this ancient and huge tree located on a huge mound of soil on the left bank of the holy river Ganga in Jhunsi, it is also called 'Vilayati Imli' in folklore. It is worth noting that the past of the Jhunsi area is documented by archaeological evidence which corresponds to five cultural phases from the Chalcolithic period to the early Medieval period.

Director Postal Services Shri Gaurav Srivastava said that the thickness of the trunk of the 'Baobab' tree is 17.3 meters and the flower of this tree is large and the fruit is long and green in colour. It is believed that Baba Sheikh Taki Shah came here from Karachi in the 15th century, lived here. Soaking the bark of this tree in water and drinking it reduces stomach ache, heartburn, and the bark is also considered beneficial in urine infection.

Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Shri Abhishek Srivastava told that the special cover released on Baobab tree will be available for sale with price of Rs. 25 in the Philatelic Bureau, Prayagraj Head Post Office.

On this occasion, Senior Postmaster Tanveer Ahmed, Assistant Director Masoom Raza Rushdi, Rajesh Srivastava, Deputy Superintendent of Post Offices Pramila Yadav and many other officials and philatelists were present.
